The Melamine Boom!!!

Hey peeps,

Its been awhile eh? Since I posted something new

Been pretty busy these few days and tons of issue has surfaced to the distraught of many parents.

You know what I mean. Excessive amount of melamine found in babies milk powder has caused so many babies suffering kidney problems and some were innocently killed by it. In figures till Sept 2008, more than 53,000 people were ill, 12,800 people were hospitalized and 4 deaths were reported due to the tainted melamine issue.

Why would people do such things? :(

Its because surplus amount of melamine in foods will help to increase the protein content of diluted or poor quality food as it elevates the total nitrogen content that are detected by simple protein tests. Thus, there is a higher selling point to consumers as parents would definitely want their children to consume more proteins for their growth but little do they know that the addition of melamine will bring on ill effects.

This issue started off in China and has raised suspicions on any other dairy products around the world as consumers are bracing for the worst, that their favourite house brand of dairy products import their ingredients from China.

Factories and suppliers are busy handling matters to ensure that their end product is safe from these problems dreading the food industry.

Now, biscuits are also scrutinize as one of the powdered baking ingredients (ammonium bicarbonate) are also contaminated with melamine.

Here’s a video of what’s going on in brief:

Today, I heard that Hong Kong labs did some analysis and concluded that even eggs from China are found to contain melamine due to the farmers feeding their live stocks with feed containing melamine. Even eggs can’t escape this threat.

How can you determine what is safe to eat and what isn’t?

I believe it’s not only melamine that we should be fearing, there are more stuff out there in the market that can have that adverse effect on us, consumers. Not now, not tommorow, not soon but someday.

So, we as consumers need to educate ourselves on the things we consume. :D

We’ll talk soon, gotta attend to some matters.

Cheers,

So true, mate. How about you help out with some of the educating too. You know, since you’re in the food line and all, haha.

Us laymen have not much knowledge on the insidious goings-on at higher levels of the food manufacturing biz.

Ps. No eggs for Jul, how to buff up, lulz.
